Hanami Garden Publication ~ 3 Layouts with Instructions

Kaisercraft Hanami Garden Publication by Alicia McNamara

Hello Crafty Friends,

Awhile ago now I had three layouts published in the new Creative Papercraft Magazine Issue 4.  The theme was "Around the World" so I used Kaisercraft's Hanami Garden Collection.  This first photo and the last photo was taken by a friend of mine who had just recently visited Japan.  This middle photo is of my cousin in Bali. I tried to make three different layouts with this collection and they had to be different to the ones I had already made for Kaisercraft.  Each have instructions if you would like to re-create them yourself.

Kaisercraft July Challenge

Hello Crafty Friends,

There is a new Challenge over at the Kaisercraft Blog for July.  You have to take inspiration from Sonia's beautiful Layout.  I followed her design and went with the Golden Grove Collection again.

Kaisercraft Golden Grove Layout by Alicia McNamara

The colours in this collection remind me of the seventies photographs from my childhood.  Even though I was born in 1980 my early photos have that real seventies orange tinge to them.  So this collection inspired me to dig out a photo of myself.  Here I am wearing my Dad's footy socks and my Mum's wedding shoes.

I'm enjoying this collection, its so sunny and bright and I adore all the flowers.  I find flowers so easy to work with.

Kaisercraft Lilac Whisper Card and new Giveaway!

Kaisercraft Lilac Whisper Card by Alicia McNamara

This is a card I made using the beautiful Kaisercraft Lilac Whisper Collection.

We were asked to create a card using this 12x12 page of sentiments.  So many possibilities with this page!

I chose the "Thank You" Sentiment for my card and I wanted to make a heavily embellished card.

I made a Process Video to go along with it.

5 Tips for Layering Paper with Video Tutorial

Do you like layering paper in layouts but sometimes are not sure where to begin?
Are you interested in some Paper Layering Tips for Scrapbooking?

Today I am demonstrating five tips for Layering paper in a Layout and I am using the sunny and gorgeous Golden Grove Collection.  I have made a Layout with a photo of my Mum and Dad on their Wedding Day.

Five Tips for Layering Paper ~ Kaisercraft Golden Grove Layout by Alicia McNamara

Layering Paper Tip 1 - Plan the Outline of Your Design

Five Tips for Layering Paper ~ Kaisercraft Golden Grove Layout by Alicia McNamara

For this Layout I chose to make a cross Design behind my photo.  I use the cross design quite a bit because I find it easy to work with.  I drew the cross onto a scrap bit of 12x12 paper to show you what I was thinking in my head.  If you have a basic outline you can shape your layers to work with that outline.  So at the end of the layering part you have something that looks balanced and planned.  Then I chose a background paper, P2354 Collated, because I wanted something quite plain to work with.

I chose the Cherry Blossom Template IT001 to use with Gold Paint and Impasto and I wanted this to pop out from under my layered paper design.  I love this template.  The little blossoms are so pretty.

Layering Paper Tip 2 - Choose Papers with Colours that Work Together

I chose three papers P2335 Canola, P2356 Fallen Leaves and P2358 Sweet Pear to use as my layers and cut them into strips of various sizes. I wanted to focus more on the golden colours from this collection, with just a hint of green, to suit my photograph.  Then I positioned them into a cross pattern and inked them with Saffron Ink.

Layering Paper Tip 3 - Use a Mixture of Mounting Tape and Flat Tape

Once I was happy with the positioning of the paper strips I stuck them down with mounting tape and flat tape.  By using the different type of tapes you can make layers of different depths.

Layering Paper Tip 4 - Fussy Cut some Layers

The papers in this collection are perfect for some fussy cutting and fussy cutting is a great way to layer paper.  I chose the paper P2352 Gold Dahlia to cut two clusters of paper blooms.

Layering Paper Tip 5 - Use Collectables

Five Tips for Layering Paper ~ Kaisercraft Golden Grove Layout by Alicia McNamara

Collectables are perfect for adding paper layers to your design...sometimes I wish I had five bags of these because I absolutely LOVE collectables.  They make creating such a breeze.  The collectables in this collection are just adorable!  So many beautiful flowers and butterflies.
