Smash Book Recipe

Smash Book Cooking

It has been a long, long time since my last Smash Book Recipe Post...but I am getting back into them again!  If you could see my Recipe Book you would understand my motivation...papers scrunched and crumpled, dog-eared, loose sheafs of paper threatening to fall out at any moment.  Nicky loves flicking through the book and takes great pleasure in spreading the papers all over the floor in a crazy frenzy! So I figured a little organisation of my favourite recipes could only help me!!

Smashbook Cooking

This is one of my favourite recipes ever.  It is great to take if you get invited to somebody's house for morning or afternoon tea. They really are delicious little muffins.  I often double this recipe as they get eaten fast.

Smash Book Cooking

I used Crate Paper Notes and Things to "smash" this recipe.  It was done quickly and easily...not a lot of thinking, just whatever felt right at the time.  Thats the best part of Smash Booking  There are no rules, its fast and fun!  An easy way to quickly get some scrapping done.  Let me know if you make the recipe and enjoy it!

Have you every done any "Smash Booking"?

I have more recipes from a long time ago here.

Happy Smashing and cooking!

Smash Book Recipes ~ Banana Cake

 Hi Blogging Buddies,
Another Smash Book Recipe card tonight.  This one is yummy Banana Cake.  My Auntie's recipe that we have been using since I was a little girl.

This time I have used papers and flowers and a note card from the Prima Jack and Jill collection.  How sweet they are! You can order them here from The Craft Garden.

Do you like the flowers? They come with the papers when you buy them (here)...saves looking for matching flowers.  I think they look cute with the buttons on top.

I have been at one school today and go to another one tomorrow...you should see how versatile I am becoming!  It is pretty exhausting though...thank goodness it pays well...otherwise I would not be as keen.

Hope your Monday has been fun.

Smash Book Recipes - Date and Pecan Loaf

Hi Blogging Buddies,

A happy Sunday to you all! I have had a great Sunday actually...spent doing some of my favourite things.  We also went and got some more wood for the fire...still feels like winter here.  We have a dvd to watch tonight and a sweet curry in the slow-cooker.  Something I have learnt today...I actually like Winter.  But I dont like it at school especially on playground duty - yuck!

I have another recipe card to share with you today...hope you are not tired of them, because there is still a few more to come.  This one is a very old Women's Weekly recipe from Grandma's Recipe book.  Published around about the 1950s I think.  Ben loves this recipe so it qualifies for the special book I am making.

I have used papers and flowers and a notecard from The Craft Garden online store...I love their stuff and have just ordered some more little bits and pieces from there.  This paper and note card is from the So Cute Collection which you can buy here.  Oh, and aren't these felt flowers so cool!  I am in love with them! You can get them here as well.  Close-up picture of the flowers below.

Well, I'm off to feed the animals and put them away for the night.  I hope you had a lovely weekend.  Thanks for visiting.

Smash Book Recipes ~ Anzac Biscuits

Hi Blogging Buddies,
It is Saturday night here and I thought I would write a quick post.  This is another one of the recipe cards I have made with goodies from The Craft Garden.  I made this recipe card using paper and a note card and flowers from the Fairy Flora collection which you can buy here.  The recipe is a great Australian favourite - Anzac Biscuits.  You can click on the picture to enlarge and copy down the recipe if you wish.

I love these two gorgeous metal butterflies...

I would like to enter the following challenges:

Cute Card Thursday - A tweet and a flutter
Raise the Bar - Something Yummy
Saturday Challenge - Anything Goes

Below is a close-up of the flowers...

I cut and pasted a bit of info on the history of the Anzac Biscuit for anybody interested.  The information came directly from this site here.

The recipe for what we now call Anzac Biscuits long pre-dates the Gallipoli Landings. It can be traced back to Scotland and the traditional Scottish Oat cakes.  The name has as much to do with Australia's desire to recognise Anzac as with the idea that they were actually part of the staple diet at Gallipoli.  They are one of the few things that are able to be legally marketed in Australia using the word ANZAC which is protected by Federal Legislation.

During World War 1, the wives, mothers and girlfriends of the Australian soldiers were concerned for the nutritional value of the food being supplied to their men. Here was a problem. Any food they sent to the fighting men had to be carried in the ships of the Merchant Navy. Most of these were lucky to maintain a speed of ten knots (18.5 kilometers per hour). Most had no refrigerated facilities, so any food sent had to be able to remain edible after periods in excess of two months. A body of women came up with the answer - a biscuit with all the nutritional value possible. The basis was a Scottish recipe using rolled oats. These oats were used extensively in Scotland, especially for a heavy porridge that helped counteract the extremely cold climate.

The ingredients they used were: rolled oats, sugar, plain flour, coconut, butter, golden syrup or treacle, bi-carbonate of soda and boiling water. All these items did not readily spoil. At first the biscuits were called Soldiers’ Biscuits, but after the landing on Gallipoli, they were renamed ANZAC Biscuits.  A point of interest is the lack of eggs to bind the ANZAC biscuit mixture together. Because of the war, many of the poultry farmers had joined the services, thus, eggs were scarce. The binding agent for the biscuits was golden syrup or treacle.

As the war drew on, many groups like the CWA (Country Women’s Association), church groups, schools and other women’s organisations devoted a great deal of time to the making of ANZAC biscuits.  To ensure that the biscuits remained crisp, they were packed in used tins, such as Billy Tea tins. The tins were airtight, thus no moisture in the air was able to soak into the biscuits and make them soft.

I hope you are having a lovely weekend.
Take care,

Smash Book Recipes - Chocolate Pudding

Hi Blogging Buddies,

I have a recipe card to share with you today. I have been making quite a few of these with the new Note Cards from The Craft Garden. This one is using a note card and papers from the Prima Paisley Road collection you can buy here. I used two papers the orange one at the top and the diagonal striped paper at the bottom and added the note card on top. Then I used some Prima flowers you can buy here. They are white originally so I just coloured them with Copics and outlined them in black. Then I added a button to the middle. I drew some swirls onto the orange paper copying the design on the note card. I was going for a very funky/modern look.

I have included a close-up of the recipe in case you would like to cook it. It is my Mum's Chocolate Pudding recipe. She often makes it Christmas night and we all just love it. A word of warning: you need a sweet tooth for this one!

Hope you have a happy Friday night. I'm off to catch a movie.

Smash Book Recipes - Quick Mix Chocolate Slice

In my quest to define some Scrapbooking goals for myself I have decided to add to my Recipe book.  This is a mini 6x6 Album that I want to hold all of my most favourite recipes.  It currently holds one (sad, I know) but now has this lovely recipe in as well so that makes two!

This slice is Ben's absolute favourite and it is so quick and easy to make.  Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the writing more clearly.  If you want to make it yourself ice the top with 1 cup of Icing sugar, 2 tablespoons of cocoa and some hot water, then cover with sprinkles.  I couldn't fit the icing onto the recipe card...I know if off by heart anyway, but I thought I would include it in this post for those of you who might like to give it a try.

The Recipe card I kept fairly simple.  I followed the sketch from Crafty Calendar.  I used Rose Red SU Card Stock, Magnolia DP and a Magnolia Stamp.  I coloured the Magnolia Stamp with Copics and would like to enter the challenge at Mad For Markers - Colouring White.

I added some pretty ribbon and lace at the top of the card, some Prima flowers I sprayed with Gold Glimmer Mist and some pearls.  I would like to enter the challenges:
Lots to Do - Ribbons and Lace.
Sweet Stampin' - Pretty in Pink
Creative Card Crew - Cute and Girly

Thanks for visiting my blog today.

Smash Book Recipes - Chocolate Cake

I am beginning a 6x6 recipe scrapbook for my favourite recipes.  I have three or four display folders bulging with recipes and I feel the need to organise the best ones in the one place.  The first recipe I had to add to the collection is my Grandma's Prize Winning Chocolate cake.  This is a family favourite and the only chocolate cake I make.  My brother and sister and I were brought up on it and we love it.

I used Magnolia stamps for this card and DCWV "Sweet Stack" DP.  I coloured with ink pads and aquapainter and decorated with gold kindy-glitz.  (I got a bit carried away with the kindy-glitz!)  I have included a close-up of the recipe in case you would like to make one yourself.  It is baked in a moderate oven.  (Don't forget to eat the mixture off the bowl before you wash it up...it is delicious!)

And here is a close up of Oops Tilda and the jar of chocolate.  I tried to keep the card flat so it would fit easily into the scrapbook album without too much bulk.  To be honest, I struggled with the colours a bit, trying to find bits and pieces to match.  I had to make do with the blue and white striped ribbon, some twine and the two little flowers all from my stash.  I am awaiting an order on flowers coming soon to me, once all those planes get back up and flying!

I used the machine to stitch around the edges and because of this it qualifies me to enter the "In Stitches" challenges at Sweet Stampin Challenge Blog and Allsorts Challenge Blog.

Now all I need to do is get started on my other favourite recipes to add to the book.  Thanks for dropping in to see me today.
